CAD, Information Systems and Software Development
A saying in our language asserts that everything, and everybody by the same token, reverts to its origins. This, then, should be true at least for Mr. Yüksel Domaniç in that, having started as a mathematician and then passed through hardest field practicing and experience, he finally decided, designed and authored a substantial CAD package mainly for highway design. Until present time all of our highway design works have been almost exclusively carried out through this software supplying to us ease, success and reputation.
Although the main motivation to start such a rather adventurous endeavor is partly attributable to the difficulty, in our early days, to afford and implement the internationally well known packages, it is obvious that nowadays they are well within the reach of even single individuals, running on these miraculous PC's.
Yet we could not, until to day, identify any noteworthy reason to change to them leaving our software aside. But It still would be wise to recognize the difficulty in keeping in pace with an excessively competitive and giant software industry where we are only a devoted engineering design and consultancy group and what we develop in this context is exclusively for internal use without any commercial concern. This surely can bring us face to face with decision of delegating the bare and routine works to the rapidly developing ready packages and diverting our programming efforts to newer and more innovative channels. To count just a few, fuzzy expert systems and fractals are offering exciting potentials in this context and complementing our beloved software with such enrichments would be another challenging yet fruitful enterprise.
